#paintABpurple

Paint Alberta Purple

On Wednesday, September 20, we are going to #paintABpurple! We are asking all Albertans to wear purple that day in solidarity with education support workers, and we need you to help make it a big success.

We encourage everyone to post pictures on social media that day using the hashtag #paintABpurple to show their support for education support workers being paid fair wages.  We need to send the message that $27,500 is not enough for education supporter workers or anyone.

Your support for this day of action is critical — we’re stronger when we stand together.

National Indigenous Peoples Day

On June 21, we acknowledge the ongoing, fierce advocacy of our Indigenous members and Indigenous people across the country. As Canada’s largest union, we acknowledge that it is more important than ever to respect the rights of Indigenous peoples to their unceded territories, as well as to preserve and protect their cultures and languages.

May Day

May 1st is marked throughout the world as May Day or International Workers’ Day. This is the day when the workers of the world take to the streets in major cities around the globe demanding justice, fairness, and dignity for all.

Workers in Alberta and around the world share a common struggle to change the unjust economic system that is characterized by privatization, unstable hours, short term contracts, and low wages. These struggles are further exacerbated by barriers like racial and gender discrimination, immigration status, criminalization, occupation, war, and the climate crisis. The result is precarity, income instability, underemployment, forced migration and poverty.
